FORWARD Jordan Murphy has been challenged to repeat his “selfless” display after netting twice in Worcester City’s 2-2 draw with Darlington.

Captain Danny Jackman was impressed with the “reaction” of Murphy who was dropped down to the bench after his poor performance in City’s dismal 2-0 defeat at Altrincham last weekend.

After Worcester fell behind to a header from David Syers on 70 minutes substitute Murphy levelled the scores with six minutes left.

The 20-year-old then coolly tucked away his second in stoppage-time before Harvey Saunders headed in a last-gasp equaliser as third-from-bottom City had to settle for a point from the enthralling National League North clash.

“Jordan was perhaps a little unlucky to be out of the team from last week but that is the reaction we want from the lads,” Jackman said.

“Fair play to Jordan as he has come on, made a difference and nearly won it for us.”

The former Walsall youngster has struggled for consistency this season, scoring three times in 34 appearances.

But Jackman said Murphy has now set the “standard” for himself and has encouraged him to meet that each week.

“Everyone knows the situation we are in at the minute so we need everyone to be a bit selfless and that’s what Jordan was on Saturday,” Jackman added.

“We are all trying hard to try to maintain our league status but we need everyone working hard for the team.

“I think he definitely did that as his work-rate in behind the defenders was better than it has been for a good few months and we will challenge him to meet that standard.

“That is the least we expect from him now and hopefully he can chip in with a few more goals.”
