“YOUTHFUL enthusiasm” has been injected into Worcester City’s squad after promoting six of their brightest prospects.

Edwyn Davies, 17, Callum Harper, 16, Bailey Fuller, 17, Sam Yeomans, 18, Bailey Beddows, 18, and Ben Tilbury, 16, have all been brought into the first-term fold.

The talented group are part of Heart of Worcestershire College’s football academy which works in partnership with the Vanarama National League North outfit.

The team, led by former City striker Mark Owen, have reached the semi-finals of the Men’s Premier Cup where they will take on Portsmouth College at Little Perdiswell next Wednesday (2pm).

Caretaker boss John Snape said his new charges provided a “great future” for the cash-strapped club.

“We have signed some young lads who have been working with Mark at the college,” Snape said.

“I have seen them a couple of times and they seem like very interesting prospects to add to the lads we have added over the last couple of weeks.

“Potentially it is a great future for the club.”

Snape has already utilised the club’s youth set-up, with Callum Devlin making two appearances and his under 18s teammates Tyreece Ruddock and Aaron Brett being named on the bench.

“They will be in and around the first team in some capacity until the end of the season with a view to getting some game-time when and if required,” Snape said.

“They will bring youthful enthusiasm. They are lacking a bit of experience, but they know how to win which is important.

“Hopefully we can blend them in with our experience and try to find a winning formula.”

Attacking midfielder Tilbury has scored 20 goals this season and is considered to be “tall”, “strong” with “very good feet”.

Harper is a “quick”, “direct” right midfielder with 19 goals to his name, while “strong-running” centre forward Beddows has netted 21 times.

Left-footed Fuller has an “eye for an assist”, Davies is a “hard, competitive holding midfielder” and centre-back Yeomans, who captains the team, is known for his ability to “read the game well”.

“I would like to thank Mark for letting us be able to add them to the first team squad,” Snape added.

Owen said the move came about after he invited Snape and City captain Danny Jackman to watch his side beat Oaklands College 3-0 earlier this month.

“We had spoken before about what we have got available, but I told Snapper about the quarter-final,” Owen said.

“The idea moving forward is to see local talent in the squad and it has benefitted them so much.”

“They have trained really hard and you have got a sense that they’ve got an opportunity now and that’s all they want.”
