JUNIOR English looks set for a “lengthy lay-off” after suffering a hamstring injury in Worcester City’s 1-0 win over Stalybridge Celtic.

The makeshift striker, who has been a key figure for City this term, hobbled off with 27 minutes to go at Altrincham’s Moss Lane on Saturday.

And caretaker assistant boss Danny Jackman fears Worcester could be without the 31-year-old for several weeks as they bid to avoid relegation from National League North.

“We have got players coming back from injuries but Junior has come off and it could be a lengthy lay-off,” Jackman said.

“That is a big blow as he has done well for us.

“It is hard to tell straight away with a hamstring. He has pulled it a bit but whether it is a couple of weeks or more we don’t know.

“We will assess that in the week and see where he is at.”

Experienced midfielder English has been playing up front in recent weeks but his absence could provide an opportunity for new arrival Kuda Muswke.

The forward, who joined on loan from Rotherham United last week, did made the trip to Altrincham but was ruled out with a hamstring problem.

“Kuda trained with us on Thursday night but had played in a game for Rotherham on Tuesday,” Jackman said.

“I think his hamstring was a bit tight so rather than risk him and get him injured we left him out with a view to using him next weekend (at AFC Telford United).”
