THE defensive “hiccup” which saw AFC Telford United claim a 1-0 win has been “the story” of Worcester City’s season, admits caretaker boss John Snape.

With seven minutes to go at the New Bucks Head Stadium goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan rushed out to the edge of his area to deal with a long ball.

But the experienced stopper collided with Andy Gallinagh and John Marsden was on hand to score what proved to be the winner.

Snape admitted the incident joined a catalogue of mistakes City have made this term as they hover one place and two points above National League North’s bottom three.

“Gally and Vaughany got in a little mix-up and it has cost us dearly again which has been the story of our season,” Snape said.

“There have been stupid goals we have given away (this season) and this one has cost us a point.”

Despite the error Snape praised his defence as they kept striker Lee Hughes quiet in his first appearance against his former club.

“Graham Hutchison has been excellent alongside James Chambers over the last two weeks,” Snape said.

“With Gally, Tyler Weir and Vaughany back there as well that’s as good a back four as you can get in this league.

“We were solid and nullified Telford but my only disappointment was we had one hiccup and it cost us.

“Going forward we have passed it well on a tricky pitch but they have put one in the bag and we haven’t.”
