VERSATILE Jordan Keane says he has set himself a “mini-goal” of getting on the scoresheet in Worcester City’s final five games.

The ex-Stoke City youngster has failed to score in his 20 appearances for City after joining from Nuneaton Town in November.

Since moving into central midfield Keane says he has more of a responsibility to “take the pressure off” Jordan Murphy who has scored four goals in six games.

Apart from Murphy only Tyler Weir has found the net with two penalties and Keane insists others need to step up to the plate.

“Jordan has come in and done well as he has scored goals but if we want to stay up and do well as a team you need more,” he said.

“You need five or six lads chipping in with a lot of goals so if I can get a couple along with another midfielder and a striker that takes the pressure off Jordan.

“A mini-goal of mine is to get one or two goals to help the team out because you can’t rely on the centre forward all the time.”

The 23-year-old can play in a variety of positions. Although his versatility has helped him during his career he admits it does create “uncertainty” heading into matches.

And Keane says he is happy to be focusing on one position having started to stamp his authority in the heart of City’s midfield.

“Over my career I have played centre-half, central midfielder and full-back,” Keane said.

“But since I have come here I have played 70 per cent of my games in midfield which is good as you can get into the swing of things.

“I don’t mind playing anywhere else but I like to know where I am playing because I like to prepare for games properly and get into the right frame of mind.

“When you turn up to a game with a bit of uncertainty about where you are going to play it gets a bit messy as you have got to prepare for two or three different positions.

“So it is a case of keeping my shirt now and playing well which I am.”

Keane produced a man-of-the-match display in City’s 1-0 defeat at AFC Telford United last Saturday.

But he is determined to contribute more as City, who are two points above the drop zone, prepare to take on Curzon Ashton at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground tomorrow (3pm).

“I think I am getting better in there as I am landing on second balls and keeping hold of it well,” he said.

“But the one thing I want to bring in the last five games is goals, especially now I am playing in midfield.

“Against Telford I was playing a deeper role as they had a lot more going forward with the lad in the pocket.

“But going forward I have had chances which I should have done better with in the last few games.”
