WINGER Chekaine Steele will play no further part in Worcester City’s relegation battle after suffering a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury.

However City’s main marksman Jordan Murphy is “expected” to shake off an Achilles problem to face Salford City at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground on Saturday (3pm).

The duo were both forced off in the 0-0 draw with Stockport County on Monday leading to concerns over their fitness for Worcester’s final two Vanarama National League North fixtures.

Steele made his first start since late February after spending more than a month on the side-lines nursing a hamstring strain.

But the ex-Port Vale youngster lasted just half an hour before being struck down with the same problem.

And Snape confirmed Steele, who has made 35 appearances, was unlikely to play again this term.

“I don’t think Chekaine has got a chance from now until the end of the season,” said Snape whose side are one place above the drop zone.

“That is a blow for us especially with the way he started the season.

“He did come on (against Chorley) on Friday and did not feel any effects which was why we threw him on from the start on Monday.”

City suffered a further set back on 80 minutes when Murphy was helped off the field by physio Ruddi Farquharson.

Murphy has scored five goals in his last nine games, but Snape is confident he will be fit to start up front against Salford.

“Jordan has caught his Achilles as a lad has gone down the back of him which has stopped him being able to run,” Snape said.

“I spoke to Jordan afterwards and he said he was a bit sore. We will review that in training, but I expect him to be fit.

“I thought he had an excellent game running across the back four, getting him into some good positions.

“Maybe he could have got a few more shots off, but other than that I thought he has been excellent in the last two games.”

Snape also revealed midfielder Ebby Nelson-Addy who replaced the injured Steele was “struggling” with a knee problem.

Captain Danny Jackman and goalkeeper Ethan Ross were also dropped to the bench while defender Tom Sharpe, midfielder Tom Rose and young attacker Ben Tilbury were not included in the match-day squad.

"I decided to change the subs and the side,” Snape added.

"I left Tom Sharpe and Tom Rose out as I wanted to get another forward on the bench (in Callum Devlin).

"Ebby is struggling with his knee, but he has given his lot.

"He is due for a scan, but he is trying to put that off until the end of the season and get through the games for us.

"Obviously Danny was absolutely gutted to be brought out of the side, but he has come on and showed his quality in the last 20 minutes with how he keeps the ball for us.

“So on the whole there is competition for places which stands us in good stead for Saturday.”
