IT is “everything or bust” for relegation-threatened Worcester City as they prepare for their final two games of the season.

That’s the view of centre-back Graham Hutchison who is “desperate” to retain City’s Vanarama National League North status.

Only goal difference keeps Worcester out of the drop zone as they are level on points with third-from-bottom Gainsborough Trinity.

And Hutchison admits his side could not have been handed a tougher game today (3pm) as they host sixth-placed Salford City who will be keen to boost their play-off hopes.

The Blue and Whites then finish the campaign at leaders AFC Fylde who may need to win on the final day to seal the title.

But Hutchison insists City, who drew 0-0 with promotion hopefuls Stockport County on Monday, are “not scared of anyone”.

“Every game is a cup final for us now,” he said.

“Salford are going to come here looking to secure their play-off position so realistically we could not have been handed a tougher game.

“But we need to go out there with the same desire we showed against Stockport. It will be difficult but hopefully we can go one step further and get the three points we are all desperate for.

“Ideally I would not want to be playing Salford and Fylde needing a win to stay up. I would much rather be safe by now.

“But when Fylde were here we felt like we probably outplayed them in the second half after they outplayed us in the first. So we are not scared of anyone.

“We know Fylde have been smashing goals in but we back ourselves on the day against most teams and we have got two games where we need to make it our day.

“It’s everything or bust for us now and everyone knows that so we need to stay focused.”

Hutchison believes City are in the “driver’s seat” in the relegation fight as a victory over Salford and a defeat for Gainsborough against high-flying Kidderminster Harriers today would all but secure safety due to their superior goal difference.

Worcester are expected to go on the offensive in search of maximum points having impressed in a 4-3-3 formation.

But Hutchison stressed the importance of not “leaving the back door open” against Salford who beat City 3-0 in November.

“Just going for it sounds like we have got nothing to lose but we have got something to lose,” he said.

“If we go gung-ho from the first minute we will end up leaving the back door open and before you know it we could be 3-0 down and it’s game over.

“So it is about being calculated and attacking at the right times.

“The front four or five played out of their skin on Monday and were very unlucky not to get a goal.

“We had myself, Sam (Oji) and Jordan (Keane) playing in a triangle and it worked really well so hopefully (management team) John (Snape), Luca (Gabriel) and Jacko (Danny Jackman) will get their heads together and get the formation right again.”
