JUNIOR English says he would “like to stay” at Worcester City and continue to work under caretaker boss John Snape who he believes will make a “good manager”.

The versatile player revealed he had received offers from five clubs when City’s squad was put up for transfer in February.

But the 31-year-old turned them down in favour of helping Snape and his players battle against relegation from Vanarama National League North.

Worcester failed to beat the drop and are expected to release many of their players in a bid to cut cost for next season.

English is likely to attract interest once again, but the former Solihull Moor stalwart says he would miss working with Snape if he was to leave.

“If Snapper is here then I would like to stay as I love working with him,” English said.

“Since Carl (Heeley) left I think what he has done has been unbelievable. He has kept us going and deserves a lot of credit.”

English, who made 38 appearances for City this season, was named Players’ Player and Manager’s Player of the Season at the end-of-season awards.

“When it went public (in February) that people were available (for transfer), I had about five offers,” he said.

“But I love working with Snapper so he was one of the reasons why I stayed. I have got a lot of loyalty towards him.

“I was never going to leave this season as I wanted to stick it out so we will see about next season.”

Since taking temporary charge, Snape picked up one win, five draws and nine defeats as Worcester finished third-from-bottom, one point adrift of safety.

But English has backed the former Hereford midfielder to get the permanent manager’s job at the Blue and Whites.

“Snapper loves Worcester City,” English said.

“He would make a good manager.

“I don’t know what he wants to do next season, but if he wanted the job I think he would get it.

“People don’t see the work he does behind the scenes, but I do.

“He is an honest person. If you are not doing well, he will tell you and he is a good motivator.

“He is new to this and there are still things he will be learning and picking up as he goes along.

“But he is the type of the manager you want to do well for.

“When you play for somebody you want to run through a brick for them and that’s Snapper down to tee, so hopefully if he wants to stay he will get the job.”
