HIGHLY-rated goalkeeper Matt Gwynne has joined Worcester City from Midland League Premier Division rivals Westfields.

The former Hereford youngster has been on the books of Westfields since the 2012-13 campaign and made 22 appearances last term.

But he found himself behind Kieron Blackburn who was Westfields number one for much of the season in the pecking order.

According to the Midland League, Gwynne was the opposition’s player of the match on four occasions to equal Blackburn who made 17 more showings.

He said: "This is a move I feel is best for me and a club where I know I will be challenging in every competition next year. I cannot wait to get started.”

Gwynne is City’s ninth summer signing following the captures of Matt Birley, Brad Birch, Nathan Hayward, Jamie Smith, James Baldwin, Albert Alexandru, Josh Harris-James and Aaron Griffiths.

Joint boss John Snape said: “Matty is regarded as one of the best keepers at this level and I am delighted he has agreed to sign for the club.”
