SEVERAL members of last season’s Worcester City squad have been given until the end of this week to decide whether they want to remain at the club.

Captain Danny Jackman, full-back Tyler Weir, goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan, centre-back Sam Oji, right-back Andy Gallinagh, defender Tom Sharpe and striker Joe Bates have all been offered terms by the cash-strapped side.

Worcester have plummeted three levels into the Midland League Premier Division after resigning from the National League due to financial reasons.

Despite the drop and having a much smaller budget to work with joint managers John Snape and Lee Hughes are hoping to keep hold of some of their key men from last term.

“I have offered certain players terms and I have given them probably until the end of the week to come back to see if they want to stay with the football club,” Snape said.

“We spoke to the players and obviously some of them told me at the end of the season they won’t be returning as they want to stay at a higher level.

“But I have offered terms to people who were interested in staying.”

Worcester-born Jackman is being reportedly lined up for a player-coach role with Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division outfit Redditch United.

Bedworth United, who play in the level above City, have also confirmed they had snapped up Sharpe who wanted to be closer to home.

But Snape said he was only aware of four of his former players completing deals with the versatile Junior English and frontman Colby Bishop joining Leamington and centre-half Graham Hutchison and winger Chekaine Steele moving to AFC Telford United.

Cieron and Jordan Keane also look likely to leave City after attending Jamie Vardy’s academy which aims to provide a platform for non-league footballers to launch their careers.

“I have spoken to Danny a few times and I am just waiting for him to confirm his status,” Snape said.

“I have had negotiations with Tyler and Andy and I am chasing Joe to be part of the club going forward.

“I have also had conversations with Nathan, Sam and Tom about their plans for next season.

“But it is down to the individual whether they want to play at this level.”

Jackman, 34, has turned out more than 100 times for his hometown club and was promoted to caretaker assistant boss under Snape following the departure of Carl Heeley in late January.

Long-serving Weir, 26, was awarded supporters’ player and sponsor’s player of the season awards after an impressive campaign and has previously spoken of his desire to stay.

Vaughan, 35, returned to City in February after a brief stint at landlords Bromsgrove Sporting.

Oji, 31, Gallinagh, 32, and Sharpe, 28, made over 80 appearances between them last term while teenager Bates, who lives in Lower Wick, had a spell on loan at Bishops Cleeve.

“I can only advise them on the status of the club, the plan going forward and offer them an agreement we can afford so we will see,” Snape added.
