ANYTHING less than securing promotion from the Midland League Premier Division would be “another bad season” for Worcester City.

That’s the view of full-back Tyler Weir who is confident the Blue and Whites can launch a tilt for the title in the 2017-18 campaign.

Worcester suffered their first relegation in 32 years from National League North last term before dropping two further levels.

Weir said he was determined to bounce back and believes City have got the firepower to challenge for the only promotion spot.

“I don’t want to be in a team like last season where we are towards the bottom and struggling,” he said.

“I want to win the league and get to Wembley — that’s the main objectives this season.

“I think with the players we have got we can do that.

“Lee Hughes will score 30 goals-plus and Dave Reynolds got 50-odd goals for Malvern last year.

“We have also got players like Brad Birch, Shab Khan and Matt Birley who have quality and experience.

“So if we don’t get promoted it would be another bad season for us.”

Weir revealed he was getting “less than half” of what he was being paid last season.

But he insisted not having players on “ridiculous money” would help the club prosper.

“In previous seasons people have been at Worcester City to pick up money. They didn’t care about the club,” he said.

“They didn’t care if we won, drew or lost, they just picked their money up and went home.

“Personally I don’t think there are many players around Worcestershire who can play in the Conference North.

“That’s my personal opinion. Dean Waldron could and there are a few other lads who could but when others say they can make the step up there’s no chance.

“It is easy to say that but this year we have got players who know this league and how to win games and want to play for City. That’s what we need so it is not about the money.

“There will be people here who will be on a lot less money but they will give more than people who were on ridiculous money gave in previous years as they want to play for City. They will put their heart and head in for the cause.”

The former Hereford ace has also backed new joint managers Lee Hughes and John Snape to get the best out of their new-look squad.

“Snapper is a massive motivator,” Weir added.

“I remember playing Scunthorpe away (in the FA Cup second round in 2014) and we were losing 1-0 at half-time.

“Snapper got into us all and I will never forget that because within five minutes we scored so his team talk changed the game. He was the reason we got a draw.

“Lee knows a lot of people in the game and scores goals galore. Just his experience around the team will be massive.”
