WORCESTER City have added further experience to their squad with the signing of title-winning defender Mark Smith.

The centre-back has previously won the Midland League Premier Division with Alvechurch and Tividale and will be looking to complete a hat-trick with City this season.

Despite being Church’s captain last term, Smith lost his place in the team and decided to leave at the end of the championship-winning campaign as the club prepared for life in Northern Premier League Division One South.

He is believed to have attracted interest from Sporting Khalsa and Highgate United this summer.

But after being offered a trial by City, Smith impressed during pre-season and agreed to sign for the Blue and Whites.

Joint-manager Lee Hughes said: "Smudger comes in with a wealth of experience and will give us a huge presence in the back line.

"We look forward to working alongside him for the new season.”

Worcester travel to Halesowen Town for their final pre-season game tomorrow (3pm).
