ALBERT Alexandru’s future at Worcester City looks in doubt after the Romanian defender relocated to Swindon.

The 27-year-old centre-back featured heavily for City in pre-season following his arrival from Smethwick Rangers this summer.

But Alexandru, who has previously played in Romania’s second tier with Dinamo II București, was not named in the side who defeated Daventry Town 1-0 in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup.

“We are not sure (on Albert’s situation) yet,” said joint manager Lee Hughes.

“He is going away to his home country for his brother’s wedding but I think he’s moving to Swindon because of his missus.

“I am not sure until he comes back what his decision is on whether he is definitely going to go or not.”

However, Hughes is confident he has got enough defensive options if Alexandru decides to leave the Midland League Premier Division outfit.

“We have signed Tom Fishwick,” Hughes said.

“Tom came on against Daventry and won a lot in the air so we can fill those spaces.

“I think we have got enough in the squad and I trust the younger lads as well.”

Mark Smith and Shab Khan started in central defence for City’s FA Cup opener at Daventry before the latter hobbled off with a knee injury on 69 minutes.

Fishwick, who City signed from league rivals Coleshill Town last week, replaced Khan and helped City get their season off to a winning start.

“Shab has hurt his knee,” Hughes added.

“I said 'If you don’t feel right come off because we need 100 per cent out there and I don’t want you to make mistakes'.

“The two centre-halves were dominant in the air and played superbly.”
