WORCESTER City got their Midland League Premier Division campaign off a winning start as they defeated visitors Heanor Town 3-0.

Striker Dave Reynolds struck twice in the first half before defender Mark Smith netted City’s third at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground.

It took the hosts just seven minutes to get off the mark as Reynolds blocked keeper Joe McCormack’s clearance before rolling the ball into the empty net.

Lee Hughes spurned a couple of chances, but Worcester opened up a 2-0 lead on 37 minutes thanks to a stunning effort from Reynolds.

The ex-Malvern Town ace’s 25-yard strike proved too good for McCormack.

After the break, Matt Birley had a shot saved before Smith headed home from a corner on 54 minutes.

With Worcester well on top, Hughes came agonisingly close to adding a fourth as his lob drifted narrowly wide.

City continued to push forward with Hughes, Birley and Reynolds getting into some good positions.

Young attackers Aaron Brett and Tyreece Ruddock were also introduced in the final 15 minutes as the Blue and Whites ran out comfortable winners.
