WORCESTER City recorded a third straight Midland League Premier Division win as they edged Loughborough University 2-1 at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground.
Romanian defender Alexandru Albert grabbed his first goal for the club on 14 minutes when he netted from a corner.
The visitors tried to level things up, but loan signing Tom Palmer, replacing Matt Gwynne in goal, made a number of saves to keep City 1-0 in front at half-time.
Dave Reynolds and Mark Danks went close at the start of the second period before Worcester doubled their lead on 62 minutes. Danks fired in from the edge of the box after being picked out by Jamie Smith.
The striker almost bagged a second on 71 minutes when his shot hit the post before Christian Eneramadv got Loughborough back into the game with a deflected effort four minutes later.
City had the chance to regain a two-goal cushion after Danks was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.
But Tyler Weir’s penalty was saved to leave a nervy last 10 minutes for the Blue and Whites to see out.
Fourth-placed Worcester visit Coventry United who have also won three out of three on Monday (3pm).
Attendance: 348.
Hard fought 2-1 win, as a collective not the best today but still unbeaten! Big thanks to the fans @WorcesterCityFc
