WORCESTER City could recruit some fresh blood ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Coventry Sphinx on the back of more injury concerns.

City battled to a 3-2 victory over Shepshed Dynamo this afternoon but joint-boss Lee Hughes and Josh Sarmento, who was risked despite carrying a knock, were withdrawn in the second half.

Those changes came just after Shepshed had halved a 2-0 deficit and the visitors went on to deservedly level before Alex Tomkinson scored City's winner late on.

“Hughesy came off with a nasty gash on his shin, he went off to hospital and we will have to review that when he gets back,” said joint-boss John Snape. “Sarmento’s groin tightened up so changes had to be made.

“We have two games in the next week and we are going to need the squad. With the injuries, we may need to bring in someone before Tuesday because we have some bumps and bruises again.

“The first thing the club does is look to the under-21s, that’s the point in having them and they have not let us down so far.”

On the match, Snape added: “The first goal was disappointing but goals change games and to be fair to Shepshed, they didn’t give up.

“The substitutions strengthened them and at 2-2, our lads showed some character not just because we got the winner but because we stayed in the game.

“We were disappointed with the two goals but we have had a good month and made progress.

“We have been guilty of missing a gutful of chances, though. On another day the game could have been buried by the start of the second half.”
