ANOTHER week, another heart-racing afternoon for Worcester City as Alex Tomkinson’s late strike secured a 3-2 win over Shepshed Dynamo.

Here, we rate the players…

CITY COULD RECRUIT: Hear from John Snape

REPORT: City 3 Shepshed 2

AS IT HAPPENED: City 3 Shepshed 2

HOW DID CITY'S RIVALS DO? Midland League round-up, Saturday, September 30

MATT GWYNNE 5

A shaky afternoon, although it was not entirely his fault.

Always committed to attacking set pieces but should have left some of them to colleagues.

GEORGE FORSYTH 6

One or two wobbly moments but grew into the game and the unfamiliar position of right-back.

Quite rightly emerged with credit.

AARON GRIFFITHS 5

Caught out of position too often for comfort.

Again, threw himself at everything but needlessly compromised himself at times and gave away unnecessary fouls.

ALEXANDRU ALBERT 7

The stand-out defender once more.

Well placed to attack things and got in some vital blocks, particularly when the siege started at 2-2.

MARK SMITH 6

A mixed performance.

Won his headers, as you would expect, but did not look comfortable.

NATHAN HAYWARD 6

Forced to battle against a robust and useful Shepshed outfit. Did okay without standing out.

JOSH SARMENTO 7

Worcester’s best outlet during the long periods of pressure applied by their visitors.

His ball for the second goal was unconventional but he did plenty to put Shepshed on the back foot.

MAT BIRLEY 6

Linked up play on occasion and showed his usual tenacious qualities without quite grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck.

LEE HUGHES 7

Rolled back the years with an expertly-timed dash for the second goal.

Got some fortune in setting up the first but earned that at a time City were struggling. Sporadic but telling involvement.

STAR MAN - DAVE REYNOLDS 8

Another great game.

Bust a gut on a wing and a prayer for the opener and was only denied a second by an outrageous goal-line clearance. Benefited from Mark Danks’s introduction.

JAMIE SMITH 6

Competed well but fairly quiet going forward. Still contributed well.

Subs: Tomkinson 7 (Sarmento, 63), Danks 7 (Hughes, 66), Baldwin 6 (J Smith, 84). Unused: Fishwick, Palmer (g/k).

SHEPSHED: Hinds 5, Hohn 7, Read 7, Preston 7, Betts 6, Prenderville 7, Harris 6 (Hill, 79, 6), Hurst 8, Brennan 7 (Troke, 58, 8), Reeve 7, Whymark 6. Unused subs: Peet, Laywood.
