WORCESTER City could delay recruitment plans with Brad Birch and Mark Danks edging closer to fitness ahead of tonight's clash with Coventry Sphinx (7.45).

Joint-boss John Snape hinted at bolstering his ranks in the wake of Lee Hughes and Josh Sarmento being withdrawn from Saturday's 3-2 win over Shepshed Dynamo.

But with plans in place to review the squad and gate receipts after 10 league matches, a milestone the club passes this evening, Snape will only seek a quick fix to his growing list of casualties if presented with the perfect candidate.

"We are playing against Alex Tomkinson's former side so we will be looking at that," said Snape of his midweek team plans.

"Brad Birch has a chance of being fit. We were never likely to risk him on Saturday because he had a bad knock the previous weekend and hopefully, Mark Danks will benefit from an extra 48 hours of rest and will be ready to start up front."

On the recruitment front, Snape added: "We always said we would discuss with the board where we were after 10 games, what the balance looks like, what crowds we have been getting and everything else."

And Snape declared himself content with his range of options barring the current queue for the treatment table with Tomkinson edging closer to an understanding with his new team-mates.

"Alex came on to play on the wrong side on Saturday because we did not want to upset the balance with Jamie (Smith) but when he did go over to the left he got on the scoresheet," said Snape.

"He has to get used to the pace of the games and hasn't worked with us long enough to know where his runs are and where to receive the ball yet but he will get there.

"Looking at our left-hand side, we look quite strong now. We have Jamie, Alex and Griff (Aaron Griffiths) fighting for two spots and like many other positions, we have good competition for places.

"It is good but the volume of injuries might see us give a chance to a young lad from the under-21s.

"James Baldwin came on and did well on Saturday too. He excites me, you never quite know what he is going to do and he is one of a few players that will get their chance in the coming weeks.

"There will be some squad rotation as well as movement because of the injury problems we've been having so it is a good chance for some of the lads to shine."
