A FIRST defeat since August saw Worcester City lose ground on the Midland League’s leading lights.

Leaders Coleshill Town had to come back from behind to pocket a point at Lye Town with Jordan Nadat on target in the second half.

Bromsgrove Sporting moved back up to second at City’s expense with a goal in each half securing a 2-0 home victory over Long Eaton United.

Robbie Bunn’s opener separated the sides at half-time with Guy Clark sealing the deal 25 minutes from time.

Coleshill lead City by nine points having played two games more, while Sporting moved two points ahead of Worcester with the benefit of an extra game to play.

Sporting Khalsa shifted up to fourth and within two points of City with a 1-0 win at Quorn after Coventry United drew a blank in a 0-0 derby stalemate at Rugby Town.

Heanor Town held out to beat Highgate United 3-2, surviving a late flurry including a goal-line clearance to move up to sixth in the standings and to within four points of Worcester.

Callum Woodward and Ryan Harkin, the goalscorer against City on Tuesday, notched for Coventry Sphinx in a 2-1 win over Worcester’s opponents next Saturday, South Normanton Athletic.

Promoted as East Midlands Counties League runners-up last season, South Normanton have lost their past four league outings, sit fourth bottom and within two points of the basement.
