CLUB chairman Anthony Hampson has issued an ultimatum to Worcester City’s supporters’ trust – get behind the club or go your own way.

Trust members are meeting tomorrow to discuss appealing Worcester City Council’s double rejection of proposals for a new ground at Perdiswell, decisions reached in spite of planning officers supporting the bid.

Hampson insists the project is a dead duck with no prospect of the land being leased for football even if the trust does succeed in its appeal.

Last month, the club distanced itself from the ongoing Perdiswell battle in order to pursue the development of Parsonage Way, a venture that has received initial support from city councillors but concerns from Warndon Parish Council.

Put to him that sections of the fan base would be fundamentally opposed to turning their back on Perdiswell, supporting the club's board or both, Hampson said: “They have to put that behind them now.

“They have to get behind the club and if they don’t want to do that they need to decide to form their own phoenix club or whatever they want to do.

“We need active support now and that’s what we’re hoping to get from the fans. There has been too much of this unpleasantness going on.

“The fans deserve a thriving club and need to support the board of Worcester City Football Club to get us back to the city. The best way to do that is to get behind the Parsonage Way project and not to try to pull it apart.

“Perhaps they need to look at what their own roles are in terms of supporting Worcester City and not just think about the individuals, the people who have held it together for the past 10 years.

“They need to see how they can positively help.”

City’s board and representatives from the Worcestershire FA have been invited to the otherwise members-only trust gathering at The Warndon Community Hub (7.45) but Hampson believes pushing for Perdiswell is “prolonging the absence of the club from the city of Worcester”.

“It is clear the land is not going to be transferred for the Perdiswell project,” he added.

“They (the trust) have been told that many times so to keep progressing an appeal on planning grounds just won’t help.

“It is prolonging the absence of the club from the city of Worcester. People I speak to at the games are beginning to realise the Perdiswell project is not a runner.

“The council told the trust and the club that the land will not be made available. The club was told in May but the trust was told some months before that.”
