TYLER Weir wants to get Worcester City "back where they belong" after making his return just over a month after leaving for Hednesford Town.

The 28-year-old full-back from Ledbury made his mark for the Staffordshire club, starting all nine games after his arrival.

But Weir decided personal and travelling issues were too much and called Worcester joint-manager John Snape asking to return.

“They didn’t want me to leave and did a lot for me to stay so it was hard not to. But I’m back here now (at City) and I want to get this club back to where it belongs,” said Weir.

“It was a hard decision to leave but it was the right one for me. I was starting every game and doing well but I’m glad to be back.

“With getting there and working I couldn’t physically do it. Without me driving it was hard relying on other people.

“This club mean a lot to me in my heart and I wouldn’t have left for any other team in this league or the league above in fact.

“It’s not about the money as I have come back on a lot less than I was on at Hednesford.”

Weir went straight into the starting line-up for City’s 1-1 Midland League Premier Division draw with Sporting Khalsa on Tuesday.

He will be hoping Worcester can mark his birthday tomorrow with three points from the journey to Rocester (3pm).

“Hopefully I can get a birthday goal but the most important thing is the three points and then it will be a good night out then,” added Weir.

On paper it will be a game high-flying City will expect to win with the 18th-placed hosts only having two victories from their 11 league games this season.

But City have stuttered of late and not won any of their last three league games.

Snape hopes to sign a new goalkeeper and is also aware of the dangers Rocester pose with strike pair Oli Roome and Martin Smyth scoring 17 goals between them so far this season.

“We have had seven days in for another goalkeeper just because I want a bit more experience alongside (Matt) Gwynne,” Snape said.

“Tyler returning is a massive bonus and he will hopefully stay with us going forward.

“Rocester are physically astute and we are going to their place. It’s important we set up right.”

Forward Mark Danks will face a late fitness test after serving a suspension while midfielder Nathan Hayward and left-sided Jamie Smith will be assessed ahead of the game.

They were involved in a car accident on their way to the match at Sporting Khalsa.
