FORMER Worcester City captain Danny Jackman has taken caretaker charge after Darren Byfield was sacked as manager of Redditch United.
The announcement came after 12th-placed United fought back to draw 2-2 with St Neots in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division at the Trico Stadium.
A club statement thanked Byfield for his professionalism and dedication but said both domestic and cup results had fallen below the club’s expectations.
It also stated the board believed a change in leadership was necessary to fulfil the ambition of challenging for promotion this season.
Redditch chairman Chris Swan said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to place on record my thanks to Darren for his tremendous hard work and commitment during his time with the club.
“He has made a valuable contribution to the club and I wish him the best of luck for the future.”
Club captain Jackman has been placed in temporary charge until a successor has been appointed.
Ashley Sammons and Spencer Weir-Daley scored late on to salvage the draw with St Neots after Stefan Broccoli and Tom Wood put the visitors ahead.
