JOINT-boss John Snape wants Worcester City to create a promotion juggernaut during a busy January – starting with maximum points at Heanor Town tomorrow (3pm).

Fifth-placed City kick off six Midland League matches in 22 days with a trip to Derbyshire bidding to close an eight-point deficit to leaders Coleshill Town.

Snape’s men have two games in hand but trail second-placed Bromsgrove Sporting by seven points from one fewer outing, highlighting the disappointment of letting slip a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with the Rouslers on Boxing Day.

But with bottom-eight opponents in Lye Town, Stourport Swifts and Rocester to follow City have the opportunity to gain ground ahead of a tricky-looking month after that.

“January is always a good time for any side to put together a run and for any of the top eight the possibility of going for promotion is there,” said Snape.

“When you look at the goal Lee (Hughes) scored on Boxing Day, that is the type of thing not many other teams have in their lockers and we hope to create that bit of magic at the right times with a lot of games coming up this month.

“It is a busy time but we will make sure we have the squad to deal with the midweek fixtures.

"We don’t take anything for granted with regard to transfers though and our policy is to look within first as well.

“The under 21s won the team of the month award for November and have been going very well.

"A lot of the young lads have been working their socks off and warrant a chance so we could look to some of those.”

The weather has stifled City's quest for points in recent weeks but Snape is confident of seeing his side in action this weekend.

“You would expect Heanor's pitch to be as heavy as anyone else’s but we hope the game will be on because we are itching to play,” he added.

“We will be doing things properly with regard to travel, we will be going on a coach and looking at the forecast we feel positive the game will be on.

“We have had a couple of reports done on them and everything we have heard suggests they will be very well organised and play a similar system to us.

“They have a front man with a bit of pace and should not be taken lightly.

"They never give up and we have to make sure we put it to bed should we get ahead.”

The fitness of Alex Tomkinson (hamstring) and George Forsyth (wrist) will be assessed ahead of the clash.

There will be a pitch inspection at 9.15am tomorrow.
