RECENT recruit Bekir Halil will be fined by Worcester City for his red card at Coventry Sphinx last weekend.

The right-sided player was dismissed for his part in an incident while the ball was dead during last Saturday’s 1-0 Total Motion Midland League Premier Division success.

It was Halil’s third City start and fourth appearance since joining from Hinckley AFC but he will now miss three matches through suspension.

Joint-boss John Snape had no complaints over the call but refuted that it represented a problem on the back of Mark Smith’s dismissal for two bookable offences the Wednesday before, a decision that was criticised by management and player in the aftermath.

“Bekir’s was a definite red card. He retaliated in an altercation before the ball came in and got caught,” said Snape.

“In fairness, he held up his hands and will take the internal club fine for his actions along with the three-match suspension.

“He apologised right away and was gutted.

"He got frustrated but you cannot do that and again it was a disappointing element to what was a fantastic result at Coventry Sphinx.”

Asked about having two players sent off in back-to-back matches, Snape said: “Mark’s was a very calm situation with nothing going on.

"All he did was ask how much time was left and I do not know why the referee sent him off.”

Smith was due to serve his one-match suspension against Long Eaton United tomorrow but the weather has seen the fixture postponed. Tyler Weir has been banned for two matches having accumulated 10 yellow cards.

Right-back or centre-half Sam Hall, who has been training with Kidderminster Harriers, has received international clearance and is now free to appear for City.

“We have a mountain of games to play between now and the end of the season and have to concentrate on winning every single one we can,” he added.

“In the same way we did when we had injuries, we will look to the squad to step up but we know it won’t be easy."
