EMBATTLED boss John Snape called on Worcester City to grasp the nettle as focus switches back to on-field matters against Long Eaton United tonight (7.45).

Despite a flurry of exits, seemingly prompted by financial uncertainty at the club, third-placed City can keep up the pressure on Bromsgrove Sporting and Coleshill Town in the Midland Football League Premier Division promotion places with a win at the Victoria Ground.

For many, it feels like a futile push with the potential for “fully amateur” status around the corner but Snape is determined to make the best of a tricky situation.

“Personally, I want us to finish as high as possible,” said Snape.

“We do have one eye on players for next season but that was always the case.

“The direction the club might take next season has been well documented but that has not been confirmed. There is an opportunity for people to shine and we are looking forward to the game.

“There could be a new face there. Ben Robinson comes in and I am sure Shawbury United will feel just the same about losing him as I do about losing some of our lads. That’s football and we need to get on with it.

“The enforced changes give us food for thought and decisions to make but also opportunities for people to shine but we are still third in the table and want to maintain our push for the top two places.”
