WORCESTER City has been hit by another key departure after goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan completed a move to Kidderminster Harriers.

Experienced stopper Vaughan re-signed for City from National League Chester in December, making 11 appearances to date.

It is another setback for manager John Snape who has lost right-hand man and striker Lee Hughes, former Burnley defender Wayne Thomas and captain Brad Birch amid uncertainty over next season’s playing budget.

Snape revealed he would prioritise finding another keeper to battle with Matt Gwynne, who has largely been Vaughan’s understudy of late, with the Midland Football League's registration deadline rapidly approaching.

“Nathan has the opportunity to feature in the play-offs for a club that is pushing for a place in the National League,” said Snape.

“The size of that opportunity cannot be underestimated but of course, we are disappointed to lose such a big and influential character.

“Originally, he is not going there as a number one but knowing Nathan as I do he will be targeting that spot before the end of the season.

“I hope to sign a goalkeeper. Just having Matt could leave us a bit short if something untoward happens.”
