WORCESTER City is understood to be in the final throes of negotiating a new ground share at Bromsgrove Sporting that would save next season’s FA Cup spot.

City, tenants at Sporting’s Victoria Ground headquarters for the past two seasons, must have security of tenure by Saturday (March 31) in order to be eligible for FA competitions in 2018-19.

Failure could mean no place in the potentially-lucrative FA Cup, a competition City beat Football League opposition in less than four years ago, or FA Vase which has the lure of a Wembley final.

The deadline to enter FA competitions is April 1.

But while the clock is ticking, the homeless club is said to be thrashing out the final details of a one-year deal at Bromsgrove with City holding the right to exercise an option for the 2019-2020 season, the campaign the club’s top brass has targeted for a return to Worcester at Parsonage Way.

Director Mark Wilcox, who is leading the talks, is confident City will be able to announce their location for next season by Thursday but declined on comment on the link to Bromsgrove.

“We are in final discussions with somebody and once it is all signed then the club will release it,” said Wilcox.

“We are well aware of the deadline and are doing the final parts of the negotiations. At the moment we are pretty solid about where we are going to be but we have those final bits to sort out.

“It is going to be done, we will get it all sorted out. We have until the end of the month but are aiming to have it concluded by Thursday.”
