City drew 1-1 with Rugby Town today. Here, we rate the players.

MATT GWYNNE 7

Pulled off a string of good saves, coming off his line well to cover the angles when exposed. One or two shaky moments but certainly not alone in that respect. As well as he’s played in a City shirt.

HAMILTON CHIWARA 7

Thrust back into action for the first time since September, Chiwara coped well with a testing and fluent front four from Rugby.

JAMIE SMITH 8

Excelled with some great covering, positioning and well-timed tackles. Offered some threat going forwards and pinged the usual variation of good-quality passes.

STAR MAN – JORDAN STODDART 8

Proved to be City’s man mountain again, dealing well with midfield runners when Rugby picked passes.

MARK SMITH 8

Precious little to choose between the former Alvechurch man and his defensive partner. They are bringing out the best in one another at a crucial time in the season.

NATHAN HAYWARD 4

No questions about his effort or commitment but a slightly below-par performance was made far worse by two out-of-character outbursts towards a critical fan while wearing the captain’s armband.

YANNICK GOMES 4

Looked out of sorts from minute one and got hooked after 51. A day to forget for the recent recruit.

GEORGE FORSYTH 6

Tried and played some good forward balls but like Hayward, sometimes got caught too far ahead of the play when City did not have the ball.

BEN ROBINSON 6

Plenty of work rate and decent link-up play. Did not offer enough of a goal threat but plenty of signs that will come.

DAVE REYNOLDS 7

Worked hard, scored a beautiful goal and might have had more. Perhaps should have looked to better-placed colleagues on one or two occasions.

ALEX TOMKINSON 7

Recent hamstring trouble did not show and he gave Rugby plenty to think about by taking up different positions. Didn’t quite catch the breaks but warranted his assist.
