EVESHAM United is preparing to host a six-a-side tournament for professional and semi-professional clubs next month.

Robins star Mat Liddiard has joined forces with Harlie Price and Callum Preece, fellow footballers based in Gloucestershire, to organise Pro Sixes at the Jubilee Stadium on Saturday, June 23.

Access to the event will be via invitation for players representing clubs that compete at non-league football’s fifth tier – Midland Football League Premier Division or Hellenic League Premier Division – or higher.

“It is something different, something which hasn’t been done on a large scale before and an ideal opportunity for semi-professional players to stay fit,” said Liddiard.

“There will be rules in place to limit the chances of injuries. The matches will be more fitness and conditioning based with no slide tackling.

“We want teams to come from a decent level to make it as professional as possible. You don’t want to be getting a kick so the controlled environment is designed to make it worthwhile for everyone.

“It could be a chance for managers to run the rule over trialists and would be great to get a lot of Midlands clubs involved.

“Hopefully, this will be a success and we can look to do it on a bigger scale in future years.

“We would like to make it an annual thing and gain national interest with Evesham being a pretty central location.”

Interested parties should contact Liddiard on 07837 055543 or Price on 07495 532406 by May 25. Entry is £60 per team.
