WORCESTER City boss John Snape hinted at achieving full value from his hitmen having agreed terms with Dave Reynolds and Nick Turton.

Reynolds reached the 30-goal milestone, the first City player to do so since Mark Owen netted 31 in 2000-1, on the last day of his first season in blue and white.

He played a part in all but two of City’s Midland Football League Premier Division matches with 25 of his goals coming in the league.

Turton, signed from AFC Wulfrunians in March, featured nine times and scored twice having been snapped up with 13 games to go.

His first strike arrived as City ended a four-match winless streak with a 3-0 success over Highgate United in April before netting a sublime long-range lob at Quorn seven days later. He had scored 14 goals in 35 appearances for Wulfs prior to joining Worcester.

The duo became the fourth and fifth players to commit for 2018-19 following confirmation that Jamie Smith, Mat Birley and Jordan Stoddart had been retained.

Snape has remained tight lipped on cash-strapped City’s budget, particularly on the back of uncertainty destabilising last season’s promotion push, but admitted to having endured a tough time while thrashing out finer details with his prized assets.

“We have been negotiating with a number of the players and I am delighted to keep both lads,” said Snape.

“Dave and I met face-to-face for the second time this week to iron out a few issues relevant to player and club.

“Those issues will remain private. There is always a lot of talk about financial things but also a realisation of where we are and what we can afford.

“It was about Dave progressing his career and I am pleased and proud to say he will be here for another year having signed for the right reasons.

“Nick is a very different player to Dave, a strong, back-to-goal striker who never gives defenders a rest.

“As things developed last season, he started hitting the back of the net and proved to be a big character off the pitch. He is an absolute darling.

“We met with Nick and although he might not be entirely happy with the deal financially, he has guaranteed his services. If and when possible, improvement of his terms will be looked at as the season goes on.”
