Dryden convinced his players will score

WORCESTER City boss Richard Dryden says he is not overly worried by his team’s lack of goals.

Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Nuneaton Town at St George’s Lane meant City have failed to score in each of their three pre-season friendlies to date.

League One sides Cheltenham and Walsall were always going to be tough nuts to crack but Worcester hoped for success against Nuneaton. However, Dryden was pleased with the amount of opportunities which came his side’s way and believes the drought will not last long.

He said: “I thought we dominated the game in the first-half for long periods and created a lot of openings and again we just couldn’t score.

“Obviously it’s a concern but it’s not a major, major concern at the moment. We’ve still room for maybe one more player to come in with scoring ability. Who that is I’m not quite sure yet.

“I don’t think anybody was expecting us to score a hatful against Cheltenham and certainly not Walsall. There’s no concern on creating chances because I think we are creating quite a lot. But it will come, it’s pre-season. We know we need a goal-scorer but I am pretty certain as it goes on we will score.

“We have got people like Matt Dinsmore who will come in and score goals whether he plays up front, wide or just behind the strikers. We have got plenty of potential.”

City may not have scored but the match represented their first clean sheet in the warm-up programme.
