MARCO Adaggio and Matt Dinsmore got the goals as Worcester City made it two wins out of two with victory at St George’s Lane last night.

Adaggio followed up his last-gasp winner at Bognor with an inspired 21st-minute overhead kick before Dinsmore made the points safe with a powerful header from Adaggio’s cross nine minutes after the break.

It was a performance full of pace and determination, founded on another solid effort from the back-four, from Richard Dryden’s side to open their account in front of a vocal home support of 944.

There were several fine individual displays, the most notable coming from Adaggio, Shabir Khan and Dinsmore, who left to standing ovation 15 minutes from time. Any fears that City might struggle to score goals appear to have been allayed.

Manager Dryden made one change with Gary Walker starting in place of the injured Dave Bampton in midfield.

The hosts struggled to get out of their own half early on and it was St Albans who enjoyed the better chances, Jonathan Hunt fizzing a free-kick just wide of Danny McDonnell's goal on 11 minutes.

Dinsmore and Mark Owen made the occasional forward foray to get the crowd to their feet but City’s goal came out of the blue mid-way through the first-half.

Graham Ward swung the ball in from the right and Adaggio improvised superb-ly in the six-yard box to spin and crash an overhead kick in-off the crossbar.

It was a moment that sparked Dryden’s side into life, even if they failed to test Paul Bastock further before the break.

Indeed, McDonnell was the busier of the two keepers and he denied St Albans an equaliser by holding on to Sean Ridgway's drive and then showing excellent reactions while on the ground to thwart the same player seconds later.

But only nine minutes of the second-half had elapsed when City extended their lead in emphatic style. Adaggio received Khan’s throw-in down the left and sent over an inviting cross which Dinsmore met powerfully to crash a header past Bastock.

Paul Hakim curled an effort just wide of McDonnell's far upright two minutes later but Worcester were soon turning on the style again.

Owen’s attempt to catch Bastock off his line from 35 yards fell just wide of the post, while Dinsmore showed his tenacity to win the ball on the bye-line and force James Fisher to hack a clearance over the bar.

Former Evesham striker Owen then brought a good save out of Bastock with a low drilled effort on 69 minutes and substitute Troy Wood stung the keeper’s palms four minutes later.

Jamie Price picked up his second booking is as many game for blocking a free-kick as City continued to press and Jemiah Richards, on for Dinsmore, had penalty appeals waved away when he appeared to be tripped late on.
