WORCESTER City’s 2-0 victory against St Albans has set the benchmark for future performances says manager Richard Dryden.

Goals from Marco Adaggio and Matt Dinsmore handed City their second win in as many Blue Square South games following their 2-1 success at Bognor Regis at the weekend.

The St George’s Lane side struggled in the first-half but Adaggio’s 21st-minute overhead kick sparked them into life for an excellent second-half display, epitomised by Dinsmore’s bullet header nine minutes after the break.

Hayes and Yeading United are next up at the Lane on Saturday and Dryden sees no reason why his team cannot make it three wins in a row.

He said: “The players have set their standards. It dipped maybe for one pre-season game, but we are hard to beat and I think we look fantastic going forward at the moment.

“It’s a very good start. We have got a good group of players here and the more we keep fit the better chance we have of winning games.”

The City boss added: “The first goal was probably against the run of play but after that it settled us down and the second goal was probably one of the best goals you’ll see this season.

“Once we got into our stride and got them penned back I think we looked a decent outfit again.”

Dryden also praised defender Shabir Khan for his performance, which saw him work tirelessly to combat the threat of St Albans’ dangerman Hassan Sulaiman.

He said: “The right winger caused us a lot of problems, especially in the first-half, but Shabir was outstanding against him and almost snuffed him out in the second-half.”
