Adaggio targets third victory in row

STRIKE sensation Marco Ad-aggio is hoping his exploits can propel Worcester City to their third Blue Square South win in a row at the weekend.

Adaggio, who only signed for the club last week, has become an instant hero at St George’s Lane following his last-gasp winner at Bognor Regis and overhead kick goal in the 2-0 victory over St Albans City on Monday.

City are currently joint top of the table and are looking to build on their impressive start when Hayes and Yeading United visit on Saturday.

Adaggio, who also set up Matt Dinsmore for a fine headed second goal against St Albans, said: “It is a dream start. I am just glad we are doing so well and are top of the league already now and hopefully we can progress and keep going.

“We have got to keep positive and we are hoping to go for three in a row and get a nice run going and stay top of the league.”

The 20-year-old Italian, who has previously played for Shrewsbury and Stafford Rangers, added: “I love the fans as well already. It’s a great start for myself, they are all cheering for me and it’s a great feeling when you’re out there and you can hear them calling your name.”

“I didn’t know a great deal about the club but Jemiah Richards was with me at Stafford and he told me how good the club was so I came down and had a look for myself and I agree, it’s a really good set-up.”

Manager Richard Dryden says Monday’s triumph has set the benchmark for future performances and he sees no reason why Worcester can’t produce a similar display against Hayes and Yeading on Saturday.

He said: “The players have set their standards.

“It dipped maybe for one pre-season game, but we are hard to beat and I think we look fantastic going forward at the moment.

“It’s a very good start. We have got a good group of players here and the more we keep fit the better chance we have of winning games.”

Dryden also praised defender Shabir Khan for his performance, which saw him work tirelessly to combat the threat of St Albans’ dangerman Hassan Sulaiman.

The City boss said: “The right winger caused us a lot of problems, especially in the first-half, but Shabir was outstanding against him and virtually snuffed him out in the second-half.”

Midielder Matt Dodd suffered a groin injury and was replaced by Troy Wood four minutes after the break, making him a doubt for the weekend, while fellow midfielder Dave Bampton is rated as 50-50 to be fit after suffering a foot injury.
