Goals won’t dry up says the City chief

WORCESTER City go in search of their third Blue Square South win on the bounce with manager Richard Dryden claiming the team looks capable of scoring in every game they play.

Finding the net looked to be a major concern for City after a pre-season programme which yielded just five goals from seven matches.

However, they have already hit the target four times in their opening two games of the campaign and are one of seven teams to have taken maximum points.

Striker Marco Adaggio has proved to be a real discovery with his last-gasp winner at Bognor Regis Town and spectacular overhead effort agai-nst St Albans, while Matt Dinsmore and Ollie Barnes have also got their names on the score sheet.

City might have added to their tally in both games and entertain Hayes and Yeading United on Saturday at St George’s Lane bristling with confidence to continue their good start.

A bumper crowd of 944 turned out for Monday’s 2-0 victory over St Albans and another gate of similar proportions is expected for the visit of the Middlesex side.

Hayes and Yeading have lost both of their games to date, opening with a 1-0 home defeat against Chelmsford and going down 4-1 at Team Bath on Tuesday.

Dryden said: “We are on a bit of a roll at the moment, it’s nice to start as we have. We are happy to get maximum points.

“It looks like it’s going to be a strong league with a lot of football being played and exciting games to watch.

“If I had been a neutral on Monday I would have been very happy.

“It was a bit of a poor end to last season and it’s nice to go away from home in the first game and win and then do the same at home.

“It’s important the crowd come and back us and they did. We were under a lot of pressure for the first 15 minutes against St Albans and the back-four and goalkeeper were excellent.

“Danny McDonnell pulled off one of the best saves I have seen at this level and the back-four kicked and headed everything.

“It’s a team game and I am glad we kept a clean sheet. If we can do that on Saturday I will be happy and the way we are playing I think people will back us to score every game.”

Striker and captain Craig Wilding is back in contention after completing his three-match ban, while Dave Bam-pton is on course to return to the side from an ankle injury.

Matt Dodd remains a doubt for Saturday’s match after picking up a groin strain against St Albans being replaced by Troy Wood four minutes into the second-half.
