JON Richardson reckons Worcester City always believed they co-uld win their opening two games of the season.
The former Exeter centre-half, manager Richard Dry-den’s first signing over the summer, has been an integral part of the St George’s Lane club’s impressive start to their Blue Square South campaign.
Dryden’s side opened up with a 2-1 success at Bognor Regis Town and followed it up 48 hours later wiith a 2-0 triumph over St Albans City on home soil.
The squad had discussed the incentive of being among the early pace-setters in the division with six points from their first weekend double header and they delivered in style.
“It’s been a good start,” Richardson said. “With the opening two games we set our stall out and said we could be top of the league if we managed to get six points out of six and that’s what we achieved. It’s everything we set out to do.
“I think we had a decent pre-season, the spirit is high at the moment. Everyone is enjoying it and it’s proving a winning formula for us at the moment.”
The only negative for the 33-year-old is the fact the team leaked an 89th-minute equaliser at Bognor on Saturday, the only blot on an otherwise polished defensive display so far.
He said: “It was frustrating we conceded at Bognor beca-use after they put us under pressure in the first 20 minutes we weathered the storm. We were frustrated when we conceded but fair play to the lads for coming back.”
Richardson is now looking to make it nine points from nine from City entertain Hayes and Yeading United today.
The defender added: “We have got to be confident with another home game — hopefully the crowd will turn out again.”
