MATT Dodd has promised to add the X-Factor to the Worcester City midfield when he returns from injury.
The confident 21-year-old made the switch from British Gas Business Division One Midlands club Sutton Coldfield Town over the summer but his St George’s Lane career has been interrupted by a groin strain.
It was hoped Dodd would be available for today’s Blue Square South trip to Weston-super-Mare (3pm) but he is expected to be out for at least another fortnight.
However, when Dodd returns, he is promising excitement.
“When I get the ball something will happen,” he said. “I have got pace to burn and I like to entertain.”
These are confident words from a man who has only played two games at the second tier of the non-league pyramid.
Dodd came up through the ranks at the Royals before getting a surprise call from City boss Richard Dryden and he is grateful the Coles Lanes manager Chris Keogh allowed him to further his fledgling career.
“Some managers would have tried to block the move, but the Sutton manager let me talk to Worcester and I have plenty of respect for him for that,” Dodd said.
“When I went back to Sutton Coldfield for training at the beginning of the summer, they told me that Worcester had contacted them about me and I’m glad I have got this opportunity. There is a lot more to come from me — I’m just frustrated that I’m injured at the moment.”
As well as being confident in his own abilities, Dodd feels the St George’s Lane outfit can make waves in Blue Square South.
“There is a good bunch of lads down here and I’m fitting in well,” he added. “I have seen enough to think that we can make the play-offs.”
