Heeley takes positives from Basingstoke

CARL Heeley says Worcester City have reason to be positive after their 0-0 draw at Basingstoke.

The St George’s Lane side missed a host of chances to secure victory in the Blue Square South clash but ultimately had to settle for a point at the Camrose.

However, assistant manager Heeley was pleased City emerged with their second clean sheet in four days following the 2-0 win at Bromley.

He said: “I can’t remember them having a clear chance throughout the game and I think we should have won the game by three or four. But it’s a clean sheet, we were away from home and we’ve got a point so we’re not too despondent.

“We have got four points out of two games and, on another day, we could have won it but we haven’t lost it.

“I think if we had had a three-goal lead at half-time, I don’t think there would have been any complaints but it wasn’t to be. We are happy that we’re looking solid, we don’t look like conceding lots of goals and that’s a positive.”

Midfielder Jamie Price picked up his fifth booking of the season for a first-half tackle and will serve a one-match ban starting in two weeks.

Heeley admits it is worrying that the Welshman has taken just seven games to accumulate the cautions but says he will learn his lesson.

He said: “It’s a concern but he’s a young lad and there’s been a couple for dissent which has been more disappointing.

“I think when he gets a little bit older and he learns the game a bit more and his tackling improves then naturally those bookings will get less and less.

“It’s frustrating to lose Jamie. It’s disappointing to lose any player, certainly so early in the season, but it’s football and it does happen. Emotions run high and people pick silly bookings up.”
