City manager bids to improve home form

CONFIDENCE is coursing through the veins at Worcester City once more and manager Richard Dryden wants his team to transfer their away form to St George’s Lane.

Last Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Bromley and Tuesday’s 0-0 draw at Basingstoke has brought a smile back to the face of the City boss following a Bank Holiday weekend which yielded just one point.

“The performances at home haven’t been great but the last week has cheered me up. We are very confident after the last two games so it’s important we try and kick on.”

City have not lost on their travels this season but have lost twice on home soil without scoring since the impressive showing against St Albans on August 11.

A 3-0 home defeat against Hayes and Yeading caught everyone off-guard, while the 1-0 loss against Bath City was also disappointing.

The events of the past few days have gone some way to setting the record straight and now, against Fisher Athletic tomorrow (3pm), Worcester have the chance to show their fans what they have been missing.

Dryden said: “The performances at home haven’t been great but the last week has cheered me up. We are very confident after the last two games so it’s important we try and kick on.”

The City boss will be forced into at least two changes with captain Craig Wilding serving the first of his three-match suspension and Dave Clarke, signed after a spell with Gresley, replacing injured keeper Danny McDonnell.

Winger Matt Dodd could be fit to return following a groin strain and Dave Bampton may be in contention for the first time since hobbling out of the opening victory at Bognor.

Dryden said: “I am quite hopeful on Matt. Dave Bampton should be training and he will be a possibility. We will miss Danny and Craig.”

Fisher have seen their squad change dramatically of late with eight players signed by Football League clubs in the past two months.

Striker Wesley Thomas, who struck twice in the 4-0 victory over Dorchester at the weekend, has joined early League Two pace-setters Dagenham and Redbridge.

Fisher are third from bottom of Blue Square South with just four points from seven games.

Dryden added: “We want to go and win the game but there’s not going to be an easy three points in this league.”
