City training suffers

WORCESTER City’s preparations for Saturday’s home match against Maidenhead United have been devastated by the weather.

City have yet to kick a ball in 2009 after their Blue Square South fixtures against Newport County and Hayes and Yeading fell victim to frozen pitches.

Now Richard Dryden’s team is also without a place to train this week as the cold snap continues to bite, ruling St George’s Lane out of action.

Last night's Central Conference League clash, a reserve match, against Bromsgrove Rovers was another casualty of the elements, while tonight's training session has been cancelled.

City, who last played on Boxing Day when they lost 1-0 at Newport, have managed to secure an hour on the new King George V third generation astroturf at Brickfields tomorrow tonight but are yet to find anywhere for Thursday.

Frustrated manager Dryden said: “We are frantically ringing around to train somewhere for Thursday.

“At the moment we haven’t got anywhere to train. It’s treacherous on the pitch and treacherous running around the streets. We are just trying to keep ourselves fit and get ready for Saturday.”

The Lane, which has not hosted a game since Evesham’s 0-0 draw against Halesowen on December 27, remains frozen and today half the pitch was still covered in snow.
