WORCESTER City today hope to learn which league they will play in next season.

The club are currently in Blue Square South but have discussed a possible switch back to Blue Square North.

Although City were given a three-year guarantee against an annual ‘yo-yo’ event when they were switched last summer, the FA allowed for the move to be reversed at City’s request.

Manager Richard Dryden met with the St George’s Lane board of directors last week to discuss the situation and they have since passed the club’s decision to the Foot-ball Association.

It is understood the outcome of AFC Telford’s Blue Square North play-off final against Gateshead, which the north-east side won 1-0, was a key consideration for City.

A negative aspect cited by the club over their position in the southern section was the lack of lucrative local derbies, of which Telford would be one in the north.

The FA’s leagues committee meets today to finalise the make-up of the non-league pyramid for the 2009/10 campaign.

Meanwhile, City’s friendly against Cheltenham on Saturday, July 11, has been cancelled to allow for work on the St George’s Lane pitch.

A charity match in aid of Leukaemia Care is due to take place in the morning and officials believe two games in one day will have an adverse effect on the surface ahead of the pre-season programme.

This North v South situation sums up the pathetic mentality of the people running Worcester City football club.
They have succeeded in alienating the clubs supporters to the extent that over 50% no longer pay to watch football at St Georges Lane, so they then want to enter a tougher league to grasp the opportunity of attracting more supporters!
