WORCESTER City have appointed Joe Murphy as their new football secretary.

Murphy takes over from Graham Hill, who left the role after six years last month to become the administrator of the Football Conference Youth League. The 32-year-old joins from Blue Square North side Solihull Moors and works as a town planner.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Solihull Borough and The Moors but I decided that the time was now right for a new challenge.

“I’m really looking forward to the job and to working with the manager and other club officials.

“I am really excited about it. There’s going to be a lot of travelling to new clubs I haven’t been to before because I have been in Blue Square North with Solihull Moors for two years.”

City director Dave Boddy said: “While Joe is relatively young in comparison to the average football secretary, he has a wealth of experience with Solihull Borough and Solihull Moors.

“He has had glowing references from league officials who have dealt with him on a daily basis. I’m delighted to have someone of his calibre at the club.

“Graham is a hard act to follow but Joe has the ability to do it. I’ve had the privilege to work with some first-class secretaries during my years in football but Graham is up there with the very best of them and we wish him all the best in his new position.”

Murphy, whose first role at Solihull was as reserve team press officer during the 1997-98 season, took on the position of club secretary in the 2000-01 campaign and has also been a director at Damson Park.

He continued in the roles following the merger of Solihull Borough and neighbours Moor Green to Solihull Moors in 2007.

Murphy has also overseen representative fixtures for the Football Association, Birmingham County FA and Midland Combination.
