A PLANNING application to demolish Worcester City Football Club's historic stadium and replace it with housing has been withdrawn at the 11th hour.
City planners were due to meet this afternoon to decide whether to allow developers Careys to build 98 new homes on St George's Lane, where city have played for more than 100 years.
The housing scheme is crucial to City's dream of moving to a new stadium on Nunnery Way.
Last week we revealed how Worcester City Council's chief planner – head of urban environment John Wrightson - was recommending the scheme be refused, highlighting a raft of design problems relating to the number of homes involved.
But City announced this morning the planning application has been “deferred” while Careys revises the scheme, in the hope of satisfying planners' concerns.
