IT has been a long time in coming, but Worcester City’s first win of the season was well worth the wait.

Matt Dinsmore repaid manager Richard Dryden’s faith in him by marking his return to the side with a two-goal salvo, one a 30-yard scorcher, as City destroyed Dorchester in spectacular fashion.

Richard Dryden’s side bagged all four in a stunning first-half, the others coming from Alfie Carter and Rob Elvins, to make it three games unbeaten in Blue Square South.

It also finally brought an end to their unwanted run without a victory, which stretches back to March 7, and could be the spark needed to propel them up the league.

Unsurprisingly, the second-half failed to live up to the opening 45 minutes but that didn’t bother the jubilant St George’s Lane crowd.

Dorchester, however, grew increasingly frustrated and resorted to kicking City off the park.

Sub Ollie Barnes, released by Worcester at the end of last season, flung an elbow into the face of Marco Adaggio but only escaped with a booking.

But former Arsenal midfielder Ian Selley got his marching orders as he lunged studs-up into Gary Walker and was shown his second yellow card.

Carter set City on their way in bizarre circumstances with just three minutes on the clock. The former Bromsgrove defender, who has impressed as cover for Shabir Khan at left-back, curled a free-kick goalwards which appeared a routine catch for Ryan Northmore under his crossbar, but he tumbled backwards as he fell and landed behind the line.

The home support had hardly drawn breath when Dinsmore collected the ball 30 yards out and smashed an unstoppable left-foot drive beyond Northmore into the top corner. Cue hysteria.

An injury to defender Wayne Daniel on 12 minutes forced a reshuffle with Marco Adaggio, one of two changes to the starting XI, coming on, Mark Clyde shifting to centre-half and Graham Ward moving to right-back.

Unperturbed, City kept up the pressure and promptly extended their lead before 25 minutes had elapsed. Louis Bridges was tackled on the edge of the area but Dinsmore sauntered in and delightfully curled the loose ball around Northmore.

City added the fourth five minutes before the break as Elvins finished off a fine move by poking the ball home.

Northmore was hauled off at the break following an open air team-talk Hull City-style and Dorchester were more of a threat.

However, they rarely tested Ben Hinchliffe, barring a late game of penalty-box pinball, and let their frustration boil over, culminating with Selley’s red card.
