No complaints after defeat

CARL Heeley was proud of his Worcester City players but felt Kidderminster Harriers showed their class in winning last night’s FA Trophy third round clash.

Chris McPhee’s goal eight minutes into the second-half proved decisive as the higher-ranked Aggbrorough side booked a quarter-final date with Oxford United on February 20.

But City had chances, with Marc McGregor hitting the post in the first-half, and caretaker manager Heeley reckons they can be proud of their efforts.

He said: “They’ve had a good go and acquitted themselves very well. I am disappointed in the result but I thought, in all honesty, Kidderminster were the better side in the second-half, they passed the ball well.

“But we had our opportunities and on another day, with a stroke of luck, we could have been two goals ahead at half-time. It wasn’t to be it but the boys have done themselves proud.

“We hit the inside of the post and a few centimetres the other way it would have nestled in the back of the net but it wasn’t to be.

“Good luck to Kidderminster, I thought in the second-half they showed the difference in the leagues. We have got no complaints.”

The pitch passed an afternoon inspection but areas were still frozen in front of the main stand and it was revealed afterwards that the match came close to being abandoned in the second-half.

Harriers boss Steve Burr said: “The referee made the decision to play but I just thought there were a few times, especially in the first-half, where people just couldn’t stand up.

"As the game went on it probably softened up a little bit but it seemed to be quite dangerous on the one side.”
