ASSISTANT player-manager Mark Clyde branded Worcester City’s second-half display against Kidderminster Harriers as unacceptable.

City threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final at St George’s Lane on Monday.

Alfie Carter and Rob Elvins looked to have them heading to a place in the final at half-time but Darryl Knights and a Lee Baker double handed Harriers victory.

City also lost captain Tom Kemp (hamstring), right-back Graham Ward (groin) and striker Elvins (hamstring) to injury during the match.

Clyde said: “It was a very good first-half and we got ourselves into a situation where we were 2-0 up. We had to make a couple of changes at half-time because of injuries but for them to go out and perform the way they did in the second-half was just not acceptable.

“As soon as the second-half started we looked shaky and to sum it up their left-back’s ran from his position twice and scored, which is not acceptable at any level.”

He added: “There’s been harsh words said and I think it’s about time they were said. Carl Heeley has taken over and he had a positive reaction from the lads in the first few games and things looked to be moving in the right direction. But on Saturday we conceded three sloppy goals and we did it again on Monday.”

Harriers manager Steve Burr, who fielded a mixture of first-team talent and fringe players, was pleased with the way his side hit back.

He said: “We missed a chance just after half-time and we thought it wasn’t going to be our night but the lads played very well in the second-half.

“It’s pleasing to get into a final. It’s something to look forward to at the end of the season. I’m never one for categorising anything, it’s another game and one for the lads who haven’t been playing to impress.”
