TWO new players will link up with Worcester City in time for tomorrow’s Blue Square South clash at home to Woking (3pm).
Cheltenham Town midfielders Jack Durrant and Josh Emery both put pen to paper on deals at the St George’s Lane club.
Caretaker manager Carl Heeley is also in talks with a third, as yet, unnamed forward and rates his arrival at City in time for the Cards’ visit as 50-50.
Midfielder Jordan Fitzpatrick and defender Kevin Spencer have both been released by the club in order to make room in the squad, while top-scorer Marco Adaggio has been made available for transfer or loan.
As revealed by your Worcester News yesterday, Heeley has been working on improving the squad as he bids to avoid relegation.
Durrant, an 18-year-old, joins on a one-month loan from Mark Yates’ League Two strugglers, while 19-year-old Emery, who made four starts for City earlier this season, has been signed on work experience forms.
Heeley said: “They are both players who operate where we need strengthening — midfield — and that will allow me to play people in their natural positions.
“It’s not a problem getting players in, the trick is freeing up money in the budget to accommodate them in the squad.”
Adaggio, with nine goals this season and 14 last term, is the highest profile casualty deemed surplus to requirements, but Heeley is keen to bolster his side’s attacking prowess.
The striker squandered chances against Havant and Waterlooville in last Saturday’s 3-2 defeat.
Midfielder Fitzpatrick has struggled with an ankle injury in recent months and his start against Kidderminster Harriers in Monday’s Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final was only his fourth of the season.
The former Hereford United youngster looked set to play a major role in former manager Richard Dryden’s plans at the beginning of the campaign before being sent off in the pre-season friendly at Hinckley.
Former Kettering full-back Spencer has been in and out of the team this season but helped set up City’s second goal for Rob Elvins against Harriers with his trademark long throw.
Heeley added: “It’s a shame to see players go but I have a job to do to keep this club up.”
Meanwhile, tomorrow’s match sees the launch of City’s Faithful Card, which rewards fans for loyalty.
It will run for the next six home fixtures with four match-stamps giving free admission to a game before the end of the season.
