CASH-STRAPPED Worcester City have paid £2,000 to fund the team’s trip for the crunch clash against Lewes (3pm).
Carl Heeley’s men face their Blue Square South relegation rivals tomorrow but will be making the 180-mile trip today and staying overnight in a hotel.
Nearly £1,400 has come out of club funds, while the supporters’ trust have dipped into their coffers to chip in the rest.
“I raised my concern with the board about going tomorrow and the club were very supportive and totally agreed with me,” the caretaker manager said.
“We will hopefully get down there about 7.30pm, have a meal together and get an early night. It does take the pressure off of having to spend four hours on the coach on the day of the game.
“The team spirit is another benefit. We will be having a bit of a laugh and joke which is a crucial factor in preparation.”
Rob Crean from the supporters’ trust added: “We want to be a bit more inclusive with our new relationship with the board and said it was a good idea.
“Three points tomorrow might be worth a lot more at the end of the season.”
