Best result yet says Heeley

CARL Heeley heralded Worcester City's 2-0 victory at Dover Athletic as the biggest result of the season.

Second-half goals from Marc McGregor and Rob Elvins handed City their second away win of the season and the Blue Square South double over the Whites.

The St George's Lane side, who had to call on former players Mark Owen and Jamie Price to aid their much-depleted squad, are now seven points clear of third-bottom Lewes although the Rooks have two games in hand.

Caretaker manager Heeley said: "I am absolutely delighted. I can't single people out because everyone who travelled with us was magnificent.

"It would have been easy to feel sorry for ourselves but we said we would all stick together and grind a result out. We made ourselves difficult to break down and frustrated them.

"Everyone had to focus on not letting their other 10 team-mates down and without exception that was the case and that's why we got a positive result.

"Dover had a lot of possession but they never really hurt us. We defended superbly and that's a classic away performance. We thoroughly deserved the win and I'm so proud of the boys.

"If we had not got beaten that would have been seen as a massive result, especially because of all the things that have gone wrong for us, but to deservedly win the game is the biggest result of the season so far.

"Lewes have got to win their two games in hand just to be a point behind us and pyschologically that's a tough ask. If we just concentrate on ourselves and win our games then it's in our own hands."

Heeley also paid tribute to left-back Price, who joined up with team hours before kick-off from Stourport Swifts, and defender Wayne Daniel.

The City boss, whose team visit Bromley on Saturday, said: When you look for big players to stand up and be counted and set an example for their team-mates, I think Wayne Daniel was that person, he was absolutely immense.

With Rob Elvins alongside him, the pair of them marshalled our back four and everyone stood up to be counted and that is a wonderful result for us.

"We are going to need those battling qualities going into the las t eight games of the season and if we reproduce that then there is absolutely no danger this team will be near relegation."

He added: "I would like to thank Jamie's manager Neil Hunt who has been superb to let him come and play."
