Injured Clyde may be back next week

MARK Clyde could be ready to return to the Worcester City team in the next 10 days.

The former Northern Ireland and Wolves defender has missed the last three games with the knee injury that has plagued his career.

However, fears that Clyde was set for a lengthy lay-off have been eased by the news he is targeting the home Blue Square South match against St Albans on Saturday, March 20, as a comeback.

“I’ve felt the knee for a good few weeks and it’s getting better but it reached the point a fortnight ago where I couldn’t play any more,” he said.

“It’s just a recurrence of the injury I had. It will flare up from time to time, I knew it would at some point, it’s just a matter of looking after it and giving it a few weeks to settle down and then I can go again.

“I’m definitely confident I will be back before the end of the season.

“Maybe not this Saturday but hopefully the following weekend so it’s fingers crossed.”

Clyde also admitted he was surprised to have reached March without having been forced to sit out a few more games.

The 27-year-old assistant player-manager said: “I finished in the professional game because of the injury so I knew it was going to flare up now and again and we just have to look after it in the right way. I’ve played 32 times this season and hopefully I can come back for the last remaining games.

“At the start of the season we said if I got 30 games we’d be happy and I was expecting it to flare up a little bit sooner than it has done.”

But following Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Dover — the second time City have kept a clean sheet against Andy Hessentha-ler’s men this season — Clyde knows he may not be certain to walk back into the starting line-up.

“It was a great result,” he said. “We went down there with the bare minimum of players and credit goes to every single one of them.”

Mark has had a great season for us, he has been an inspiration.

It'll be good to have him back for the potentially crucial remianing games.
